First it was very hard and frustrating, and I was going back to my grammar book all the time to understand some phrases and grammar constructions. It took about 1 hour to read 2 chapters(10 chapters in each story). You can do that with very basic knowledge. I did these 2 every day until I read the whole series. I then stopped and started to use every day Anki with a deck I found on the internet with most common 4000 words and I bought the dino lernt deutsch series. I then did half of the German Grammar Drills, 1h each day. You will flex your grammar muscle with the exercises included in each section. This book introduces essential grammar concepts, with practical examples to demonstrate their correct usage. Every day I read 4 pages(it took 1+ hour just for 4 pages) until I read the whole book.
